Threebrook Interpret Privacy Policy
Version: 2026-10-24 (draft)
Publisher: Threebrook Contact: support@threebrook.com
Threebrook Interpret is a translation tool that runs on your own PC. We don’t collect any usage data: there’s no account, no analytics and no ads, and your settings, history and screenshots are never sent to us. This policy explains when the app goes online and what it keeps on your PC.
1. When the app goes online
· Only when you translate. The app sends the text you want translated to the translation engines you’ve turned on and receives the result. It doesn’t go online otherwise, and installing and uninstalling don’t go online either.
· Two online engines are on by default: Bing Translator and Yandex. When you use them, the text you translate is sent to Microsoft (Bing) and Yandex and is subject to their own privacy policies and terms. We have no control over how they handle it.
· Official APIs you add yourself (Baidu, Tencent, Youdao, Azure, DeepL and others) receive the text along with the key you entered.
· OpenAI-compatible APIs: the text is sent to the address you entered. If that’s a model running on your PC (such as Ollama or LM Studio), the text never leaves your PC; if it’s an online service, the text is sent to that provider. Clicking “Fetch” in Settings to read the model list also contacts that address.
· For confidential text, turn off the online engines and use a model running on your PC.
· The app doesn’t check for updates on its own and never contacts Threebrook’s servers.
2. Screenshots and text recognition
Screenshots stay on your PC. Text in a screenshot is recognized with the OCR built into Windows, on your PC; images are not uploaded. When you click “Translate” on a screenshot, the recognized text is sent to translation engines as described in section 1.
3. What’s kept on your PC
The installed version keeps its data in %AppData%\ThreebrookInterpret; the portable version keeps it in the data folder next to the program:
· Settings and the glossary. API keys and secrets for translation engines are encrypted with Windows Data Protection, so only your Windows user on this PC can read them.
· Clipboard history: text and images you’ve copied, by default up to 500 items for 30 days. You can turn it off, change the limits or clear it in Settings. History is stored as ordinary files and is not encrypted; content that password managers and similar apps mark as “do not record” is skipped.
· An error log, error.log, which records problems only, not what you translate.
· Screenshots you save go to a “Threebrook Interpret” folder in Pictures by default (“三溪通译” with the Chinese interface).
4. Deleting your data
When uninstalling, tick “Also delete my settings, glossary and clipboard history”, or delete the folder above yourself. For the portable version, delete the whole program folder.
